Group Exams Workaround

BYU Learning Suite does not have the ability to create exams exclusive to specific groups of students within a course. However, a workaround is possible by creating a category that drops the lowest scores except for one. For example, a course with four groups that will each take different exams requires a category with four exams that will drop the three lowest scores. Thus the students will take the exam for their group and the zeroes from the other exams will not count towards their grade.

Note: There is no way to ensure students take the correct exam. The students will need to be instructed on which exam they are to take.

Step One:

Log in to your Learning Suite course and click Assignments in the Course Home navigation menu.

Step Two:

Click the + New category button.

Step Three:

Enter the necessary information for an assignment category (click here for more information on the options available).

Check the drop low scores box [1]. The number of low scores you drop will depend on how many separate groups and exams are needed. For example, in a course with four groups and a different exam for each group, three low scores will need to be dropped.

Click Save [2].

Step Four:

Create the exams and place them in the category you created (click here for more information on creating exams).

Note: There is no way to ensure students take the correct exam. The students will need to be instructed on which exam they are to take.
