Instructor Preferences

BYU Learning Suite provides users with a Preferences page. For instructors, this allows them to select several different options, including the following:

  • Ability to select what page opens when logging in
  • Ability to set a default due times for assignments
  • Ability to set default open/close times for Exams
  • Ability to set a default option for students to view scores (points, percent, or letter grade)
  • Ability to select the default email that Learning Suite will send emails to
  • Ability to set default reporting rules for Exams
  • Ability to adjust filters, notifications, and permissions for Messages
  • Ability to set default display options for syllabi
  • Easy access to iClicker and iClicker Cloud registration and help links.

 

Step One:

Log into Learning Suite and click the Preferences (gear icon) in the top right corner.

 

The Preferences dialog window will open. The Preference page has seven tabs:

Home

The following image and table describe the options available in the Home tab.

Select a home page for login from the dropdown menu.

Click Save if finished.

 

 

Assignments

The following image and table describe the options available in the Assignments tab.

Select a default time for assignments to be due.

Select a default time for exams to open.

[3]

Select a default time for exams to close.

[4]

Select a default option for students to view scores.

[5]

Click Save if finished.

 

Email

Select which email you would like Learning Suite to send emails to. Options available are your University Personal email, your University Work email, or Other, where you can enter in the desired email address. For help with changing your University Personal email and your University Work email, click here.

Click Send Test Email to ensure that the email information is correct and functional.

Click Refresh Emails to refresh the email addresses listed if changes were made recently.

Exams

The following image and table describe the options available in the Exams tab.

Select a default option for students ability to see certain items immediately after taking their exam.

Select a default options for students ability to see certain items after the Exam Close date, the last day of class, or a relative date (i.e. after x amount of days/weeks).

Click Save if finished.

 

 

Messages -- Filter

The following image and table describe the different options available in the Messages -- Filter tab.

In order to access the Messages -- Filter window, the header must be clicked.

The filter window does not apply to instructors, as messages cannot be filtered as an instructor.

Click Save if finished.

 

Messages -- Notifications

The following image and table describe the different options available in the Messages -- Notifications tab.

In order to access the Messages -- Notifications window, the header must be clicked.

[2]

Select options for notifications concerning messages with students.

[3]

Select options for notifications concerning messages with instructors or TAs.

[4]

This portion of the dialog window is relevant to students only. Checking the box as an instructor will have no effect.

Click Save if finished.

 

Messages -- Permissions

The following image and table describe the options available in the Messages -- Permissions tab.

In order to access the Messages -- Permissions window, the header must be clicked.

This area provides settings for whether or not students can email one another. Each course is separate and can be adjusted as desired. As noted, if “No” is selected, students can still send messages to instructors, TAs, or groups they belong to.

This area provides settings for whether or not messaging is completely disabled. Each course is separate and can be adjusted as desired.

[4]

Click Save if finished.

 

 

Syllabus

The following image and table describe the options available in the Syllabus tab.

This area lists the required portions of syllabi. The checkboxes cannot be unchecked.

[2]

This area lists optional portions of syllabi. Checking any of these boxes will set the option as a default portion of future syllabi. Note: Only new syllabi will be affected. Existing syllabi will need to be manually edited.

Click Save if finished.

 

iClicker

This tab gives you and your students easy access to iClicker registration, help, and instructions. Click the links within the tab for these different helps.
