Preview an Exam

BYU Learning Suite allows instructors to create exams within Learning Suite. After an exam has been created and published, instructors can preview the exam via two methods:

If you preview the exam as an instructor, certain restrictions are ignored, including open and close dates/times, time limits, the number of times an exam can be taken, and IP address restrictions. These restrictions are enforced when a student attempts an exam.

If you view the exam as a student, you will be subject to any of the restrictions mentioned above.

View as Instructor

Step One:

Log in to your Learning Suite course and click Exams.

Step Two:

Click the title of the exam you wish to preview.

Step Three:

The Exam Info page appears. Click Go to Student View located beneath the Log out icon.

Step Four:

View as instructor is the default view when first entering student view. You can preview the exam regardless of the open or due dates/times, time limits, the number of times an exam can be taken, or IP address restrictions.

Click Start Exam Now to take the exam.

Step Five:

Answer the questions as if you were a student.

The following image and table explain the different features available to students while taking an exam.

Number Function
[1] Exam instructions Any instructions you included when creating the exam will display here.
[2] Test Progress Displays the total number of questions in the exam. Questions that are answered and saved are shadowed. Questions that are flagged (see [4]) have a red indicator.
[3] Finish & Submit Can be used on any page of the test to finish and submit answers.
[4] Flag The flag icon can be clicked to flag a question so that it can be revisited later. A red indicator also appears above the question number in the Test Progress section.

Note: Time limits set for the exam apply to student view as well. For example, if you are previewing the exam in student view and the timer runs out the exam is automatically submitted and closed.

Step Six:

When finished, click Finish and Submit. Your attempts appear on the Scoring and Results pages in Exams, but are not entered into the gradebook.

Step Seven:

The student view of Exam Info appears. Here you can view when the exam was submitted and your score, depending on what preferences were set in the Reporting tab.

Select View to view correct and incorrect answers. Open response and some fill-in-the-blank questions are not computer-scored and will therefore appear with no points awarded to the question. Manual scoring can be done in the Scoring tab in Exams or within the Grader.

Note: When or if the View button appears depends on preferences set in the Reporting tab in exams.

Step Eight:

Click back to the instructor view.
