Syllabi Directory Help

About the Site

The Syllabi Directory (syllabi.byu.edu or syllabus.byu.edu) is the central location to access syllabi that have been created or stored in the BYU Syllabus Builder or in BYU Learning Suite. Syllabi are available back to fall semester 2010 when the BYU Syllabus Builder was first released. Syllabi are only available for courses where the professor created or uploaded a syllabus previously.
With the release of this site, BYU Syllabus Builder has now been retired. To create or upload a syllabus for your course, you can now only do so in BYU Learning Suite.  

How to Use the Syllabi Directory

From the Syllabi Directory you can do the following: 

1) Access current semester syllabi
2) Access past semester syllabi (back to Fall 2010)
3) Save a syllabus as a PDF (or print out a syllabus)
4) Get the URL for a past syllabus

Access Current Semester Syllabi

To locate a current syllabus, do the following:

  1. Select current semester syllabi button (or make sure it is selected).

  1. From the “Choose teaching area” drop down, select the teaching area.

    A list of available courses for the current semester will be displayed (if any).


     

  2. From the list of courses, click on the course you are looking for.

    The course area will expand to display the instructors teaching that course and a link to the course syllabus (if available). The system will also display the course learning outcomes that are common across all sections of the course (if any).


     

  3. For the syllabus you wish to view, click View Syllabus (if available).

    The syllabus will open in HTML or the format the instructor uploaded into the system if compatible with the browser. Otherwise, the file will download.

Access Past Semester Syllabi

Syllabi Directory contains available syllabi created or uploaded to BYU Learning Suite or BYU Syllabus Builder back to fall semester 2010.

To locate a syllabus from a past semester, do the following:

  1. Select “Past syllabi.”

  2. From the “Choose semester” drop down, select the semester you need.
  3. From the “Choose teaching area” drop down, select the teaching area.

    A list of available courses for the selected semester will be displayed (if any).


     

  4. From the list of courses, click on the course you are looking for.

    The course area will expand to display the instructors teaching that course and a link to the course syllabus (if available). The system will also display the course learning outcomes that are common across all sections of the course (if any).


     

  5. For the syllabus you wish to view, click View Syllabus (if available).

    The syllabus will open in HTML or the format the instructor uploaded into the system if compatible with the browser. Otherwise, the file will download.

Save a Syllabus

The best way to save a past syllabus is to print the syllabus as a PDF file. Although options to do this may vary by browser, generally you may do the following:

  1. From your browser’s menu, select Print.
  2. From the Destination or Printer Name field, select Save as PDF or Acrobat PDF ,etc.
  3. Click the Save or OK button
  4. Select the location where you want the PDF file saved and click the Save button.

Get the URL for a Past Syllabus (for Linking)

If you need to link to a past syllabus, do the following:

  1. Access the syllabus to which you wish to link.
  2. Select and copy the URL.
  3. Paste the URL in the site/system where you are linking from (i.e., department website, BYU Learning Suite, etc.).
